Thom King is the founder and CEO of Steviva Brands Inc., one of the largest importers, manufacturers, and distributors of natural sweeteners. A self-described “bio hacker,” he has made it his life’s work to study food science and use his knowledge to help people eat healthier, avoid harmful sugars, and maintain diet and exercise habits that defeat metabolic disease. His company, based in Portland, Oregon, derives its name from stevia, the South American plant extract that is calorie-free yet three hundred times sweeter than sugar, and does not contribute to the combination of metabolic diseases that Thom calls “diabesity.”

What Led to Writing Guy Gone Keto?

It all started in 2015. Thom King was in Las Vegas for a trade show. He went out to dinner with some clients, polished off a huge meal, chased it down with a few glasses of wine and topped it off with a decadent dessert. He went back to his room which smelled of broken dreams and regret only to find himself staring into the mirror and not liking what he saw. A hypocrite starred back. How could he run a health food company when he was 35 pounds over-weight and completely unhealthy. He found his discipline and started writing as he changed his lifestyle. Guy Gone Keto is not a recipe book. It is the chronicle of one man’s journey down the ketogenic path and what it takes to radically shift ones mindset and habits. Part journal, part confessional and full of motivation.

How did the line of Guy Gone Keto condiments come about?

For selfish reasons of course. Thom King is a food scientist. He also fancies himself a bit of a foodie. Who doesn’t like a tasty burger with ketchup? But ketchup has more sugar than ice cream! Who would drench a burger in ice cream. Nobody! Most condiments are laden with added sugars. If you are on keto more than likely, aside from bread, condiments had to go. Thom missed ketchup, BBQ sauce, teriyaki sauce, steak sauce and particularly sweet Thai chili sauce… you know that sauce, right? So he made these condiments for himself and they turned out so awesome he wanted to share with his friends and anybody within his orbit… including you.
